All six volumes of this towering achievement by pulp historian Robert Sampson: a wide-ranging survey of series characters from the non-hero pulps. Hardcovers in cloth with dust jackets. First editions. Originally published by Bowling Green University’s Popular Press between 1983 and 1993, these books profiled dozens of series characters from magazines as diverse as Adventure, Short Stories, Blue Book, Detective Story Magazine, Argosy, Detective Fiction Weekly, and The Popular Magazine. Absolutely invaluable not only to pulp-fiction collectors but casual readers as well. The original hardcover editions of these books are long out of print. Condition: All books were purchased new and seem never to have been read, making them essentially As New. All but Volume Five have Brodart wrappers protecting the jackets. Volume One has a label signed by Sampson on the free front endpaper. A stunning set, all but impossible to find complete in this condition.
