THE SPLENDID EXILE, L. Patrick Greene, 1935 British first edition
A collection of Pat Greene’s pulp adventure stories featuring erstwhile diamond smuggler Aubrey St. John Major and his Hottentot manservant Jim. This 1935 volume, published by London’s John Hamilton Ltd., reprints five 1933-34 novelettes originally published in Doubleday’s Short Stories magazine. Both American and British editions of Greene’s “Major” books are quite rare, especially in grade. This one is a beauty. Condition: a strong Very Good Plus. Extremely clean copy, obviously read but carefully handled and stored. Even better, it lacks any trace of foxing, a condition born of moisture that’s often found in vintage hardcovers from Britain. In short, we have here a handsome specimen of a very scarce book.
