THE JUST MEN OF CORDOVA, Edgar Wallace “Railway Edition”

The British publishing firm Ward, Lock & Co. during the 1930s issued softcover versions of many of their popular hardcovers. Marketed to consumers and sold in train stations among other consumer outlets, these books were called “Railway Editions,” printed on pulp paper, and priced at 6d (two and a half pence) each. As one of the U.K.’s most popular fictioneers and Ward, Lock’s top-selling author, Edgar Wallace is well represented in Railway Editions, many hundreds of which were published. At five and a half inches wide by eight and a half inches long, they’re larger than digests but smaller than pulps. The Wallace titles are especially collectable, as a good number of them were never published in the U.S. in any form. This one, being the third adventure of the internationally popular Three Just Men, is an exception. All of the Ward, Lock Railway Editions are extremely scarce to downright rare in the States.

Condition: Very Good to Very Good Plus. Light creasing to front cover, slight spine damage including quarter-inch chip out of head. Text block is lightly yellowed but supple.
