STRANGE STORIES, June 1940, Belarski cover
An issue of the relatively short-lived (13 issues) “Thrilling Group” pulp that competed with Weird Tales and some of the horror pulps. While never a great magazine, Strange Stories remains collectable because it featured yarns by such genre heavyweights as Robert Bloch, Henry Kuttner, Seabury Quinn, August Derleth, C. L. Moore, Hugh B. Cave, and other WT regulars. In recent years it has become even more popular, with high-grade copies of select issues selling for $1000 and up. This one has a cover by Rudolph Belarski and stories by Bloch, Kuttner, and Derleth among others. Condition: Good Plus. Possible edge trim (but very slight if at all). Several small pieces of discolored tape on edges near spine. Spine is complete and brightly colored but has the tape wrapped around head and heel. Text block is yellowed to light tan but still supple. A perfectly decent copy that will make an acceptable hole-filler unless or until you find a better one—which, of course, will cost you a whole lot more than this one.
