FAMOUS FANTASTIC MYSTERIES, April 1940
Early issue of this “Red Star” magazine created to reprint classic science fiction from such early Munsey pulps as Argosy, All-Story Weekly, The Cavalier, etc. Among the notable yarns in this issue are installments of A. Merritt’s “Conquest of the Moon Pool” and Austin Hall and Homer Eon Flint’s “The Blind Spot.” Unusual cover by pioneering SF-pulp illustrator Frank R. Paul is done comic-book style: it’s a pen-and-ink drawing with color overlays rather than an oil painting, as was customary on pulps. Condition: Very Fine Minus. Only two tiny chips on the front cover’s top edge (see scan) prevent us from grading this copy Very Fine. Otherwise it’s clean, tight, and glossy, with off-white to very lightly yellowed and extremely supple pages.
