ELLERY QUEEN’S MYSTERY MAGAZINE, April 1950, “Third Man”

A key issue of this long-running, multi-award-winning crime digest edited by the “Queen” cousins, Fred Dannay and Manny Lee (more by the former than the latter). Its main attraction is the original novella-length version of Graham Greene’s “The Third Man,” which served as the blueprint for the famous movie’s shooting script. It also has Anthony Berkeley’s justly famous short story, “The Avenging Chance,” which he expanded into the equally famous 1929 novel THE POISONED CHOCOLATES CASE. Additionally, the issue has John Dickson Carr’s “The Gentlemen from Paris,” a prize-winning yarn and tour de force by the master of the locked-room mystery.
