WAR ACES, 1st six issues, bound volume of author’s file copies

A professionally bound volume of the first six issues—April through September 1930—of this Dell air-war pulp, a companion magazine to War Birds. These were the uncirculated file copies owned by contributor William E. Barrett, who has at least one story or article in each. Barrett was a prolific pulp fictioneer in the 1930s, highly regarded for his “Needle Mike” series in Dime Detective. Later he became a regular contributor to the slicks and is best remembered for his popular mainstream novel Lilies of the Field. Other prominent pulpsters with stories in these issues include Frederick C. Davis, Raoul Whitfield, F. V. W. Mason, Arthur J. Burks, and Harold Cruickshank. Covers by George Rozen and Frederick Blakeslee, among others. Condition: Fine or better, with off-white pages and bright, glossy covers. The binding is blue with gold stamping on the spine. Can easily be handled and read. An extremely handsome collectable whose appeal is strengthened by its provenance. A truly unique item.
