Vintage Movie Script: THE TERRIBLE PEOPLE, 1928 serial based on Edgar Wallace novel
Here’s another one-of-a-kind item tied to a long-lost movie serial from the silent era. The Terrible People (1928 Pathé) adapted the Edgar Wallace mystery novel of the same title (but originally serialized in Detective Story Magazine as The Gallows Hand). George Arthur Gray’s script faithfully adapts the Wallace story but adds a grotesque mystery figure not found in the original source. A reading of the script indicates that Terrible People was a thrill-a-minute chapter play. Like House Without a Key, it was directed by Spencer Bennet and starred the Allene Ray-Walter Miller team.
We are offering the only original copy of this script known to exist. It was obtained in 1990 from the estate of the Pathé employee responsible for captioning the 8×10 publicity photos sent to magazines and newspapers. Carefully stored, the mimeographed script survived in excellent condition; it’s not browned or brittle and can be easily read without fear of damage. There are no torn or creased pages. To additionally preserve the script we had it professionally bound in black buckram with the title stamped in gold flake on the spine and front cover.
This is a truly unique collectible and has been priced accordingly.
