Two Ellery Queen novels, 1940s Triangle editions

Philadelphia: Triangle Books, 1946. Octavo, cloth in dust jackets. “Popularly priced” (39 cents!) reprint editions of two early Ellery Queen novels, The Siamese Twin Mystery (1933) and The Spanish Cape Mystery (1935). These feature Ellery in his Philo Vance phase and sport intricately plotted puzzles with the authors’ trademark “Challenge to the Reader.” Condition: Near Fine in Very Good Plus to Near Fine jackets. Like all Triangles from this period, they have tanned text blocks owing to the very cheap paper used. Otherwise they’re sharp copies—clean, tight, with vivid edge colors. The jackets show minor wear, but overall these present very well. They make great reading copies, or hole fillers for those who collect Queen in hard covers.
