THE LONE RANGER AND THE MYSTERY RANCH, G&D novel adapted from pulp
The 1938 second book in Grosset & Dunlap’s long-running series of Lone Ranger novels adapted from various sources. This one is revised and expanded from “The Phantom Riders,” originally written in 1937 for the first issue of the short-lived Lone Ranger pulp magazine. The Ranger’s radio scribe, Fran Striker, reworked the G&D novels—adapted from pulp yarns, radio shows, and even Big Little Books—to make sure they conformed to the character’s “official” persona. This is a first edition, identifiable by the beige cloth covers, maroon top stain, and Paul Laune frontispiece absent from later printings. Condition: Very Good Plus. Clearly read more than once but generally very nice. A bit of shelfwear but otherwise a clean, tight copy. Note: facsimile dust jacket for this 1938 first edition is available from several vendors.
