SILVERTIP, Max Brand, high-grade G&D reprint

Grosset & Dunlap, 1942. First edition thus. Cloth in DJ. Reprint of Dodd, Mead’s 1933 hardcover edition of a “Jim Silver” novel by Max Brand, originally published in Street & Smith’s Western Story Magazine. As with the copy of Desert Gold listed elsewhere in this section, this copy is in unusually nice condition for one of these reprints. In 1942 G&D began using pulp paper for its “Popular Copyright” reprints, but this book appears to have been printed before the changeover. The text block is white, on regular book paper rather than pulp. The cloth binding is unusually clean, as is the dust jacket (except for a nick on the front panel’s top edge, over the “S” in the title; see scan). These wartime editions do not turn up in such great shape.
