POPULAR WESTERN, August 1947, Louis L’Amour

Another “Thrilling Group” title, this one began later than the others but established itself early on as a vehicle for dependable if second-rank Westerns. This issue features several recurring characters, the most prominent being Louis L’Amour’s Ranger Chick Bowdrie, in his fifth of many appearances in Popular Western. L’Amour was already a skilled and prolific pulpster, with a long list of adventure and air-war tales to his credit when he created Bowdrie, his first Western series character, in 1946. Cover by A. Leslie Ross.
