MAMMOTH DETECTIVE, May 1942, first issue

Volume One, Number One of this Ziff-Davis pulp, with stories by top crime-pulp writers Robert Leslie Bellem, Howard Browne, and William McGivern, in addition to many of the Amazing Stories stable. Unusual photo cover. At 324 pages this pulp was the thickest published at the time, although wartime paper shortages would soon force reductions in page count. Condition: Fine. Some wear to front and back covers’ top edge, otherwise a nice clean copy with smooth spine (many have bubbled spines owing to uneven glue distribution). Text block is lightly yellowed but supple. Not a particularly rare pulp but uncommon in higher grade.
