Frank L. Packard, ADVENTURES OF JIMMIE DALE, high-grade A.L. Burt reprint

A. L. Burt hardcover reprint (late 1920s vintage) of the 1917 George Doran first edition collecting numerous short stories featuring Packard’s proto-hero-pulp character Jimmie Dale, alias the Gray Seal. Among these yarns are the Gray Seal’s origin and his first contact with the mysterious Tocsin, who would mastermind his Robin Hood-like exploits. Packard’s Jimmie Dale stories greatly influenced Walter B. Gibson when he wrote the early Shadow novels. and that influence becomes readily apparent after one has read the Gray Seal adventures. Condition: Fine, maybe Fine Minus if we’re being conservative. Only apparent flaws are tiny scuffs on the back-cover cloth near bottom edge, and just a wee trace of shelfwear on bottom edge. Text block in clean, white, and tight, with spotlessly clean end papers. An excellent sample of this now-scarce book. By the way, Facsimile Dust Jackets LLC sells a beautiful replica of this edition’s dust jacket.
