BLACK MASK, September 1938
Average issue from the editorial tenure of Fanny Ellsworth. Among the half-dozen stories are three featuring popular series characters: Theodore Tonsley’s Jerry Tracy, Nels Leroy Jorgensen’s Black Burton, and H. H. Stinson’s Ken O’Hara. Cover by James Lunnon, interior illos by Arthur Rodman Bowker. Condition: Fine. The cover looks faded but isn’t: it’s a printing defect. I’ve seen three copies of this issue with the same problem, indicating the black ink (which creates contrast) ran low for part of the run. Text block is lightly yellowed and supple. Overall a sharp copy.
