Jon Tuska, THE FILMING OF THE WEST, 1st edition
Garden City, NY: Doubleday & Company, 1976. Large octavo, hardcover in dust jacket. First edition. Tuska’s book is hardly “the definitive behind-the-scenes history” its front-cover blurb promises; it’s riddled with factual errors (most minor, but some major) and questionable conclusions drawn from incomplete data, and the author commits the unpardonable sin of using his tome to settle personal scores. But the book is undeniably broad in scope and wide-reaching in its appeal. And there is a great deal of material heretofore unreported. For all its flaws, Filming of the West still belongs in every Western fan’s reference library. Long out of print. Tuska long hoped to publish a revised and expanded edition but did not complete it before passing away last year. Condition: Fine in Fine jacket with just a trace of rubbing. Book is scarce in this condition. Copy was only read once and shelved for many years.
