Ellery Queen, CALAMITY TOWN, 1st edition in DJ

Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1942. Octavo, cloth in dust jacket. Stated first edition. Arguably the best Ellery Queen book, a Haycraft-Queen Cornerstone title and a fixture on many lists of Best Mystery Novels. The first of Queen’s “Wrightsville” stories, which show the Great Detective in a more relaxed, humanistic light. Condition: Near Fine in a Very Good to Very Good plus jacket. There’s some slight foxing on the book’s endpapers and page extremities, but overall it’s a clean, tight copy. The jacket shows various nicks and some minor discoloration to the rear panel. It has a few small pieces of yellowed tape on the inside at spine head and heel, but they don’t show through. Overall a fairly sharp copy of a true classic that should be in every mystery collection.
