C. L. Moore, THE BEST OF C. L. MOORE, pulp reprints, 1st in DJ

New York: Taplinger Publishing Company, 1977. Octavo, cloth in Brodart-protected DJ. First edition. Catherine Moore was one of the relatively few distinguished writers of pulp fantasy and science fiction during the Thirties and Forties, and this collection edited by Lester del Rey does indeed represent her at her best. It includes such classic tales as “Shambleau” (her first, published in a 1933 issue of Weird Tales), “The Black God’s Kiss,” “The Bright Illusion,” “Greater Than Gods,” and “Vintage Season.” Del Rey supplies the introduction. Condition is Fine in Near Fine jacket. (Note: DJ’s smoky appearance is part of the design, not soiling.)
