New York: Brentano’s, 1924. Large octavo, cloth with gold trim and inset cover illustration. First edition. This prequel to Treasure Island, sanctioned by Robert Louis Stevenson’s estate, was serialized in the pulp magazine Adventure prior to publication in hard covers. Brentano’s issued two editions; this one has nine full-color plates for illustration. Artist is H. C. Murphy, a prolific painted of pulp-magazine covers during this period. Condition is Very Good Plus to Near Fine. There’s only slight rubbing to the front cover’s gold background, which is often worn away almost completely is copies of this book. The gold stamping on the spine, which also is frequently worn away, is all there on this copy.
